Ron, This old pine board had so many bad areas in the wood plus worm holes in it.I carved around them. In the background, theres rocks, cliff at the top with pine trees, some older trees with alot of knots carved in the foreground. I carved alot of depth in the whole scene and only painted the grouse which is sitting on a big birch tree in the middle of the carving.

We've read about you and have enjoyed your carvings in the WCI & the Chip Chats magazines. I say WE,my wife plus myself really enjoy your relief carvings!!

Thanks for taken your time to ck out this Mtn Grouse Ron plus your nice comments. Forrest

Thank you very much Doris! Im glad you liked how I left the background unpainted. I wanted as you stated, for the main focus to be on the grouse himself but then you would be drawn to the carvings in the back ground.

Thks again for your nice thoughts & comments. Forrest

Corey,I enjoyed this grouse carving myself by only painting him and leaving the background carved. As I carved I was missing the bad spots in this old wood and when I was finished carving it,heck it looked ok to me and I left the natural wood to show.

Thks again for your nice comments Corey! Forrest

Toffeeliz,Helloooo young lady, from England. Im glad to welcome you to our carving board & forum!! You will find alot of great cavers on this board plus one like myself? Im the artist/carver that mostly carves old found junky wood which I find in my area here in the Mtns of East Tennessee, which is about a few clicks from Liver Pool! Yea right!

A tip on carving for you,the more you ""TRY"" the better you will come along in your carvings. I admire that you are attending school.

I appreciate you for stopping by to view this grouse and your nice thoughts and compliment. Working on another honey bear carving, which will be ready in a few days. The only bears that I know of in England are the bear furs on the guards hats that stand out side the queens palace.I know a man that has one of thoses hats. I think they are Koollllllll~

Thks again,Forrest

Merle, thats kinda what I was trying for in this carving, one that doesnt have you looking and ckn out this item or that color and on and on. Just a simple carving with the main focus on the grouse and more of a natural wood with the trees and all around him with out all the paint!

Gald you liked it buddy. Thks for stopping to view it and your nice comments! Forrest
