Default Mountain Man and NA Indian

Hello all,

Yes I haven't posted for a while but I have posted 4-5 Sea Captains in the gallery over the summer months so I was still carving. My other passion (kayaking) kept me busy but I hope to become a regular poster as we move into the cooler months....at least here in the atlantic area of Canada.
Shown here are two characters influenced by Mark G. and some of the caricature carvers on this site. I find I'm experimenting with different styles lately trying to find my nitch. The carvings are appox. 10-12 inches tall in basswood. The treatment is linseed oil, acrylics, sealer and then a dark wax.

Hi Patrick,

You did very well on both carvings. It seems you paid close attention to detail as well. I like the coloring you've done all the way to the beads in the Indian's hair.

Thanks everyone. These are fun carvings to do and don't take that long as much of the waste wood is already gone due to the angle of the wood. The NA Indian is boarding on being a caricature with the close eyes and other large facial features. I'll not claim to be a caricature carver as I admire that style. It's nice to hear from the members, old and new...not in age mind you.
