I've had some spare time the last two weeks and have finished a couple more carvings. I'm pretty happy with how the turned out, even though they were just playing around. Both are from basswood scraps from a bag of "Whittling" piece from Michael's Craft Store. I chose the orientation of each pattern to take advantage of the look of the grain. After the pieces were oiled with NaturOil, I found the grain on the Goddess Spoon far more pronouced than on the penguin. The Goddess spoon will most likely be given to someone as a gift. The penguin I carved for fun and will keep in my box of finished carvings. |

Those are two beautiful carvings. That natural finish really does show off the terrific grain patterns. excellent work.

Wow! These are really good. I gotta go with the penguin - I'm a sucker for cute! I always like seeing what people do with their leftover scraps. Isn't it fun making something from what would have just gone in the trash? Jillsy |

I agree jillsy. I'mtoo cheap to throw anything away if I think I can use it for something else. I also expect to have alot more scrap pieces available once I start using a bandsaw to make my roughouts.
