| | More than one Projects Hey Gang, how many of you have more than one or two carvings going at one time.? Is it confusing on what you want to carve with several projects going at one time?
OR-
Am I the only one having this problem?
Me mind sometimes don't work the way it should. Well, the little bride thinks so! :
Safety first, then enjoy the carving,

| | Re: More than one Projects Kenny,
My wife thinks I have ADD she cant believe that I can work on more than one carving at a time. I at any given time have 5 or 6 carvings on the go. I will be carving and have an idea the carving I am working on is too far along for that idea so I start another. Also I find there are times when I get bored with a carving or it is not going the way I want so again I start another. There have even been times when I have tossed a carving into the firewood pile retrieved it at a later date and made a really nice carving out of it. So Kenny you are definatly not alone, I am sure that nearly everyone else on this board is the same way. .

| | Re: More than one Projects Kenny - Yup, same deal here. Some in the house; some in the garage. Sometime you just have to look at one for awhile to make up your mind what needs doing. Of course, I can't follow directions so patterns etc. are almost useless to me. I can't ever finish one the way it's supposed to be finished. |

| | Re: More than one Projects Hi Kenny, yes I have 3 going right now. I always feel guilty starting something if I have another on the go. I was working on a bird last week when my wife said that we need a wedding present for a good friend of hers. Alright, time to shuffle projects around again. That's o.k., it keeps me busy.

| | Re: More than one Projects With all due respects gang, I am glad I am normal . Well as normal as I can be. I did finish up a cat fro the little bride that was almost finished a year ago. Did not know how I wanted to do the hair, Burn it or carve it. Finially burned in the hair/fir and painted it.
I have several projects going and still find myself starting another or wanting to. I am not around any carving clubs so I do not have others to ask question about carving. I am a self taught and read mags or books and I guess I have my own technique.
Anyway, Thanks all for the replies. Boy will my little bride be surpirsed that I am normal : .

| | Re: More than one Projects I sure hope this is normal. I always have a few going, some in batches, such as love spoons. I get stuck at times, walk away for a couple of days, then get the big picture and can finish. I think that's one area in which the artistic carvers have an advantage over those of us who are just mechanics. They can 'see' the project from start to finish. I struggle with that even with a pattern.
It's also easier to do the rough work in batches, then be able to carve and finish as time allows. Again, those who are retired or carve full-time have the advantage over those of us still working and constrained in our carving time. |

| | | Re: More than one Projects Ok so you shammed me into confessing. After reading this post I counted 33 unfinished carvings in several boxes. I do finish projects however. I think its because my attention spand is very very short, or the sports event on the TV ended sooner than I expected and the project went into a box. I did find a bench knife I have been looking for while I was counting. I date each piece when I start. The oldest unfinished one dates back to '96.

| | | Re: More than one Projects I have not counted, but I would guess that I am as bad as Ric with 30+ carvings that have been started and not completed. I know I have 5 on my work stand upstairs right now and many more in the basement. My real problem is getting the carvings painted (and/or sealed). I have at least 10 MORE carvings completed and 'waiting' on paint. Some have been carved for over 3 months!!! Of course, I just carve for relaxation..... I don't sell or show except for once/year. The rest I give as presents at Christmas or birthdays, etc.
