| | More Small Carvings Im though with the smaller carvings when I get this Rainbow trout painted, today in a min.
I had 2 more carved pins but some of the ladies where my wife works bought them this wk. The pins are ok but I like mounting the little carvings on bases of cherry or other woods. I used Cherry, Mtn Laruel and Sour wood for theses carvings. The carving are 1/8 - 7/16's thick and 1 1/4 inches wide and all relief carved. The Elk is larger at 2 1/2 inches tall.
The Humming Bird,Deer,Racoon and Honey Bear will be on bases.
Like carving the Trout,I like to leave my cuts and have them flowing with the fish so when I paint it,its looks like the water is moving.Alot of my carving I sand out my cuts but most I leave the cuts. Painting takes alot of time on theses because you have to paint in the boarders keeping off the outer rims thats around the carving which creates a frame.
The back grounds behind each subject is carved also, like the trees, etc.
Just wanted to share these smaller carving, course to me,they are not that small with some of my minnies Ive carved and after this show now in 2 wks I will be enjoying alot of different carvings Ive been wanting to do!
I hope you have enjoyed viewing these and your thoughts or comments are more than welcome.
Forrest

| | Re: More Small Carvings Robert,I use some old cobbler tools Ive reshaped plus knives & files to carve with on little items. I use chisels, V-tools and gouges with mallet on larger carvings.I draw the items on the wood then carve it out. Im gald you liked these little carvings and I appreciate your good thoughts. Forrest

Sour wood is a tree that grows up here also, its kinda hard but nothing as laurel is. Didnt get to paint after all this morning but when I finish the rainbow trout I will post it here also. Thanks again Mark for your neat thoughts,I appreciate you buddy. Forrest
