Default Modified blades on stockman's?

Hello,

Thanks for the oportunity to join what looks like a fine forum.
I am just getting the bug to do a little whittling and have a question?

I have been reading through this forum a bit and would like to know when people say they are using "modified blades" for their whittlers what modifications are they doing to them?
I have a Stockman and would like to see some pictures of some of the modified knife blades if possible on any folders that make improvements?

thank you,
Sean

What I have done is reshape the blade if needed and then most importantly, give it a flat grind and get rid of the bevel at the cutting edge. I currently have a couple Rough Rider dogleg whittlers that I have ground the spear point of the large blade to make it more like a Case Seahorse whittler. It cost me less than $10 for both brand new off Ebay and that beats $100+ for a Case Seahorse.

Hello Seanski, on my You Tube site below, you can see a "6- blade, Boker", I reshaped every blade to suit my pref., w/ 6 blades on one pocket knife, I was in no need for another in my pocket.( ...yeah... right.lol) The vid. is. titled "My Woodcarving Tool Box". I go over tools & knives Ive collected through the yrs. hope it helps, you dont to have an expensive knife, the Rough Rider knives are very capable of makin' a fine whittler !

I have a 20 - 30 year old Buck knife that Rick at Little Shavers Wood Carving Supply reshaped and sharpened for me, it came back as sharp as a razor blade and holds a fine edge. I got a Flexcut carving jack for Christmas 2 years ago (cost over $100), when I reach for a folder it is my modified Buck knife 90 % of the time.

Dave

PS - When you are looking to purchase a fixed blade knife talk to Allen ( AGOODKNIFE ), he makes and sells one of the best knives on the market today, I mean AWESOME !!
