I ran across this page: Wood Carving Blanks,Basswood Roughouts, carving blanks,Christian Roughouts,Wood carving Roughouts, crosses from White River Crafts Which feature a kit to make you own Mobius strip. After studying the pictures. I got out my sliding bevel and worked a small block, with 3 inch side. Once I started working on it , it seemed easier then it looked. It is only a single piece and I will going to sand it. It could be a good beginner project if anyone teaches a class because you have to "read the grain" which is constantly changing directions. |

All Sanded, not quite a "STRIP" but was fun to work. Maybe my next one, will be a flat strip or a double, but will need a large piece, probably 5 inches on each side.

Tom, that's crazy! What an idea! I look forward to seeing one in a real strip aka a belt.

Tom that's really cool!...........and I'm sure you're right about paying attention to the grain. You wouldn't want to let your concentration wander while carving some thing like that. Thanks for sharing Wayne |

| Wayne, that is so true especially when it is small and soft basswood. I have to confess that is why some portions are smaller than the rest. Going across the grain the knife does not bite as deep as with the grain.

1. Find the center of the the board parallel to the long sides, marking a long line where you the "point" should be. 2. Measure the width of the board. 3. Measure this distance from each corner of the board to the center line. 4. Now all three side should be about the same. 5. I used an old Mortising Gauge to mark off the width of the strip. Scribing about 1/2-3/4in in from the edge. Look at the webpage I quote at the start for pictures. I will post in tools about my mortising gauge. : ) |
