Default A Mix Of Carving and Woodworking.

I have been working on this project for awhile. A bar top with some old fishing lures recessed into the top and covered with 50 coat varnish. I will be working on the base for it and plan a 12 by 12 inch relief carving for the center of the base.

Looks nice, Gergie. Are the holes filled with some resin/epoxy so the surface is flat?

Hi Claude it's called Envirotex, pour on high gloss finish. It's a polymer resin and hardener mix.

One lesson I learned is you need to affix the lures to the bottom of the hole. when I poured the resin in the holes the "wooden" lures started to float, Duh!

I Poured the holes full tell they were flush with the surface and let them dry for 4 days then I poured the surface finish.

It's all new to me, so I learn as I go.

Gergie, this is awesome! I've seen tables done like that, only out of slabbed redwood burls/roots. I think there were shells in the ones I saw years ago. They were tables in a restaurant north of here.Very cool!

Here's an update on my table. I'm am now starting the carving phase next, a relief of the Minnesota Viking logo. I was very excited to get the base done. Here are a few pixs.

Thanks for all the nice comments, this has been a challenge for me so far. The carving will be a piece of cake compared to the woodworking.

I have finished my bar, here is a picture of the "carving part" It was a fun and challenging project. I used walnut on the Viking relief and a spaulted(sp) maple for the frame
