Hi Everyone, I've been away from carving going on a year now. Grrrrrr! We moved and my "part-time" job seems more like a new career. I've missed posting on this forum and I've got to get back in "the groove!" The move to our new home means I must carve in our screened in lanai and I really can't create that much dust due to the furniture we have out there. Thanks to this forum, I found the ideal (home-made) dust collection system that I plan to build. I had great intentions to get to the nearest dryer/appliance repair shop to get started with a fan/motor and I'd be off. But, I seem to get "side-tracked" and keep putting off the search. Well, I gotta "git-r-done!" I need a spark to get carving again. Maybe your collective urging will do the trick! Cosmo |

Start looking through your carving books and magazines, until something catches your eye. Then start carving away. I'd get a place figured out in your new home where you can set up carving station and contain the dust. I think that might be part of your problem. Or just do a flat plane or caricature carving only chips involved, no dust. I hope you get in the groove soon.

When I have been in a slump, I have found it helpful to pick up a piece of wood and just carry it for awhile. My wife usually laughs when I bring something to the dinner table......or I spend some time with my tools. I always have something that needs to be sharper, or cleaner. It is hard after sharpening a knife/gouge NOT to try it out on something....remember that piece of wood from the dinner table???? I think I remember seeing a teddy bear in it somewhere.......good luck...
