Default Mirror Carvings

I have been working with mirrors as well as wood for a little while now and I have a couple of new pieces to show...

The First is a 10 Round Mirror that I carved a Texas Aggie Class Ring into the back of it... I did this as a gift to my Dad who is a die hard Aggie Fan and Alum.

This Picture doesn't really show well so here is a close up. Aggie Ring

The next one I just finished for our local Wildlife Association's Banquet Dinner. I donated two pieces for their fund raising Raffle and it turned out to be very popular.

Since it is tough to see the detail on this photo >> Here is a link to a close up. 2 Deer in a Meadow

Hope you like them!

I use a high speed air carver and I found that it is best to carving into the "Silver" coating on the backs of the mirrors so that light comes through. The hard part is learning the technique for showing depth and texture by using different burs, strokes, and depths! I still have a lot way to go but I like the results I am getting right now.
I carve on a lot of different materials but mirrors seem to get the most attention when I show or display them.

I've seen mug carving and glass carving but not mirror carving. It looks like it could be very touchy work and not much room for error. Nice work and it looks great.
