Wanda,
I started with a 3/4 by 3/4, and 4 inches long, so that I had something to hold onto while carving. Carved both ends, then cut them in half and drilled them, and now they are all painted and waiting for instructions.

Have fun, Tom E

Wanda,

I did the same as Tom Ellis. When you cut the blanks 3/4 x 3/4 and carve a face on the corner, the width msy end up a bit wider than 3/4". But that's fine. I doubt that anyone will be taking a ruler and measuring the segments.

Oh! Tom Ellis gave me a little preview of his segments. IMPRESSIVE! Can't wait to see what everyone carved.....

I am glad no one has a ruler then cause I ASSUMED my wood was about 3/4 since it was called 1 x 1. It truely is a 1 x 1. The one I did today is cut down to 3/4 x 3/4 . I guess whoever gets the first 4 will have a bit meatier piece.

I had planned on mounting mine like a mini totem pole. But I like the mount like a thread spool holder too.

I thought I had cut mine 3/4" but they are in fact 1", so I hope no one is too particular about exact measurements.
I have eight done so far and working on the others.

Hi Deborah, Maybe they can put your pieces and mine together then. In the email with your address, don't we need to add Canada to it?

Humm,

dont know how ill display mine, but after i carved the first 12, i thought about hanging them Christmas tree ornaments.

by tying a knot in a string and taking a 1/8th dowel about 1/2" long... poke the knot in the top hole spread the strings and follow the knot with a dowel section,

no glue would be needed just force fit if you use a big enough string...?

All 24 pieces are 3/4"x 3/4"x 2"
no im not a fanatic about 1/4" difference,

I bought a lot of basswood craft $4.00 packs from Micheal's - hobby lobby over the years I carved the 8 - 4"x2"x3/4" blocks into the tiny 3/4"x3/4"x3/4" little league teams, and didn't know how to get rid of the 3/4"x2"x2" pieces that came in the packs. so i ripped them and smoothed with a plane... and made these pieces...

I've been busy with work the last few days, so I only got 3 more done.

Here's a sneak preview of my carving. This is a shot of the floor in front of my workbench. If you take all the chips, fit them carefully back together, you'll have ten anti-carvings; just pour some plaster or casting resin in the little hole in the top, take the wood back off, and you'll see my carving!!

that's the way all my carvings end up! I've got 2 finished and the others have been started. These little guys go pretty fast....now if I just had the time to work on them!

That's a lot of chips Claude, you must be making them into toothpick carvings I am looking forward to this and seeing what everyone comes up with.

Hi Wanda;
I don't think you need to put CANADA if you have the postal code but it wouldn't hurt.
Look forward to seeing your piece.
Claude, used photoshop and your piece came together great, look forward to seeing it in person.lol
