This sounds interesting to me but I have a question or two. Do all the carvings have to be the same that we do? or can we carve something different if we get a better idea? Right now I am having a hard time thinking of something that I could carve that small but I might try a few sketches and see if it works. If so I might throw my hat in the ring. Besides the pictures from the last mini-cane segment are there any other pictures of minature carvings to look at to get ideas? |

There is no requirement that one must carve all of the segments the same. In regard to seeing other examples of mini cane segments; I don't have a list of web sites where they may be posted. In fact I know of no other Mini cane effort, only the standard friendship cane where the segments are about 2" x 2". If you PM me I can provide a list of items that would lend themselves to the mini size. Tom H |

Hi Tom H, This thing sounds like a lot of fun, and I like carving the little Jack Price caricatures, so you can add me to your list, and I will try to keep up. TOM E. |

Do we do 11 so you can send one of these to Bob at WCI......which would mean we send 2 to you? I just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page. Thanks again Tom for organizing this! Blake |

Here is the most current list of round 2 Mini Friendship Cane participants that I have, and their "status". 1. Blake Lunsford - confirmed 2. Buckskin - confirmed 3. Thomp - confirmed 4. matia - confirmed 5. wildhare - confirmed 6. Tom Ellis - confirmed 7. Tom H - confirmed 8. Claude - NEEDS TO CONFIRM participation 9. woodchips4u - NEEDS TO CONFIRM participation I will keep on trying to get confirmations, from Claude and woodchip4u (who had earlier expressed interest in round 2). But to answer the question, yes we'll need to carve one extra segment so I can send a set to WCI. THERE'S ROOM FOR SEVERAL MORE. Tom H |

Tom; Is number 4 me? I sure hope so because I have completed 6 so far, and painted them. Working on the others, I cut out 13 of them also, so if we get more than 10 I am fine with that.

Yep Deborah, #4 is you. I guess my fingers don't work so well anymore. Thanks, for participating. At this time we'll need 10 cane segments. Tom H |

NOWS YOUR CHANCE! Be a part of the 2nd MINI FRIENDSHIP CANE project, and receive mini carvings from other members of the WCI message board. Don't wait until you read about this Mini Friendship Cane in WCI. It will be too late to sign up then. Everybody who has seen my mini friendship cane from the first round, wants it. If anyone is holding back because they don't think their carving skills can match some of the others, FORGET IT! Just look at my contribution. There are all levels of skill represented. The beauty of a project like this, is that those that participate end up with a carving of a friend on this message board. You can hold this carving in your hand and visualize that friend creating it. You can see the carving and finishing techniques that your friend has used. You can use the carvings as great references to improve your own carving skills. Nuff said; we NEED several more participants. As my good uncle used to say "WE WANT YOU". Tom H |

Tom, i would not feel slighted if i received all 9 - 12 segments from raw beginners carving segment that was rough, out of scale or un-detailed.... i don't know how the other round 2 carvers feel maybe they will sound off. and it might promote this round 2, for the less experienced folks. as a study in carving other folks carvings is truly a study in different ways folks carve and handle the hard spots your having trouble with, from handling transition points in the grains to details and finishing, there's a lots of opinions on the board but there's no 2 carvers truly alike!... and you might help those that need a example to get over the hump..
