Default Mike Shipley Seminar

What a great weekend just concluded in Augusta, Kansas!

Missouri carver/author/instructor spent two days working with a avid group of local area carvers. Mike was ably assisted by his wife and soul mate, Sherry, in helping keep all of us straight!

Mike's style of flat plane Ozark style carving was a hit with the group of 13 who tackled everything from Cowboy Santas, Witches, Santas, Ozark characters, bears and snowmen. Several of Mikes books are available from Fox Chapel. Mike also manufactures some fine knives and tools as well.

Saturday was special treat with local carver and SDC instructor Gregg Thompson feeding his special Bar-B-Que to the group at noon. It was great and caused the need for a good nap afterwards. Thank you Gregg.

One of the highlight of this class session was the fact that carvers ranging in skills from beginner to accomplished, all benefited from Mike's techniques. In a side note, it was determined that over half the participants were active members of this forum.

If you ever have the chance to take one of Mike Shipley's classes either in your town or the Branson area, by all means do so. You'll not be disappointed!

It sounds like you had a great time, Ed. It sounds like a real learning experience and a chance to chat face to face with fellow carvers. But, why no pictures? You know everyone here loves pictures. Ed

Sounds like a great time Ed!! I had the chance to meet up w/ Mike in Bettendorf where I picked up his Abe roughout. Everyone there was enjoying
his class as well. Barbeque, carving, and naps...sounds like an awesome way to spend a day!

Yes it was a great weekend carving. Mike and Sherry make their classes seem like a down home event, Gregg bar-b-que and all. The carving banter was flying both days. It's amazing what one carver will say to another.....with a sharp knife in their hand. It was the second class for me and I look forward to another. Lots of fun.

Big Ed: I was so busy I forgot to take my camera. Some folks took a few shots but they haven't shared them with me. If that happens then maybe I can share some with the forum.

I guess we can forgive you, but don't let it happen again.

Sounds like it was a great class sorry I had to cancel. Hope to get my hands on some of the finished projects when I get back from NY.
