Our Carving club had a three day class taught by Mike Shipley this past Friday-Sunday. This was a great class, I really learned a lot, and had a ton of fun. The Shipley's are great people, easy and fun to work with, we enjoyed them both. I bought a couple of his knives...man are they sharp and the handles feel wonderful in my hand. The price was extremely reasonable as well, $23 each. I won't throw away my Butz knives, but these defiantly will see a lot of work. I enclosed a few pics for ya'll...I am the robust sized fella in the red Nebraska shirt, the guy in the green shirt painting is my best friend, and the three carvings are what I did this weekend. The two youngest men in the group photo were both in my Boy Scout Troop, and their fathers also were Scout leaders with me and are in the club as well. Mike is now making Denny gouges in addition to his knives (may have been doing this for a while, but I didn't know it), and I recommend them as well. if you ever have a chance to take instruction from Mike..jump all over it, he is cutting back on his traveling, at least for now in this economy. I hope you all have a great week. |
