| | micro.comEmail from Teri Teri...I just got an email and Norton blocked it as having a virus...the subject was 'here is the document' So I think a virus is in, or has been on your computer, you might want to run a 'housecall' by www.trendmicro.com |

| | | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri A number of those e-mails have been coming to me fron various members of the yahoo groups over the last few months. I think they have somehow compromised the yahoo system. I have gotten to the point where i simply delete anything with an attachment.
My computer is firewall protected and checks out clean with Norton, AVG, Housecall, and A Squared. (I am a little obsessive about virus protection) LOL |

| | | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri Thanks, Dave. I did check out my system, Norton, Housecalls, etc......no virus here. But I'm told by my website carrier that there are viruses getting into folks' address lists and sending these messages with a 'from' of anyone that's in their address list.
How true all that is, I haven't a clue. I do know I've had a nightmare lately with email messages purportedly sent by 'updates@teriembrey.com' - a mailing list address that is NEVER used to send mail, only receive.
I'm thinking it's getting to the point we'll have to hire actual tiny little armed guards to run back and forth over the internet waves and kill off these little buggers. Hmmmm...miniature armed guard breeding...the newest money-maker.

| | | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri I think that some how they are coming from this message board. Not that anyone has a virus but I think because our email is on here and our web sites they send them hoping we will open them. I get at least 10 messages a day that are picked up by Norton. Some of them say they come from members of this board but I know that that is not true. Some have titles that catch your eye as well like 'woodcarving' but if I dont know you I dont even open them and as for attatchments I dont open anything. Its like anything else some people have nothing better to do. You know if these people would try woodcarving maybe they would find there are much more productive things you can do with your time.

| | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri There's another batch running around addressed to the recipient as 'woodworker'. I can't figure out where they're coming from, but I just use Norton to screen the attachments, and create a message rule to delete them. I get an 'undeliverable mail' message that I think is actually part of the scam. I also get some undelverable mail messages that are real, and lead me to believe the outgoing message at least looks like it came from me. The addresses are not in my address book, so I really can't figure this out. I've alos done the same with the 'woodcarver' email list that started with this message board. I think they're really good folks, and many are posters here, but it got to be a real nuisance. Mike |

| | | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri The only thing I can add to this is that I haven't received a thing. I don't belong to any other lists or message boards except this one, so that may be food for thought.
I wish you all well and a virus free computer.

| | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri I don't think it's just this board. We are having periodical problems with this virus at work. It invades the system and uses user names of actual authorized users and sends messages to others on our board with attachments that are contaminated. We've had three rounds of it in as many months.
Little green men armed with zappers might be the answer Teri. The computer fairies don't seem to be able to keep up with them.

| | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri I got an email from teriembrey that said for me to open and update immediately. I sent Teri an email but got no answer. It had a virus in it and was stopped before I opened it. That's confusing. I don't know why Teri would send me an email with a virus in it? LOL. Thanks Teri. Just what I needed. I'll bet Teri did not even send it. Some hacker maybe???

| | Re: micro.comEmail from Teri Those emails are being automaticly sent by the Sasser virus. It can read your email list and send messages from your computer / their computer. If your computer is not protected by having updated anto-virus software and all of the lastest microsoft patches / updates applied, your computer can be infected WITHOUT opening an email with that virus!
Here's a list from Symantec with about every virus cleaning tool known. If you suspect or know that your machine has a virus, download the remover, follow the easy directions for it's use and fix your machine before the virus has a nasty effect on it! It seems that Teri is infected and should really fix it! http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html
To protect your machine, set your anti-virus software to automaticly check for new updates at least once a week. Also at least once a week, manually check for updates! Also run Windows Update at a minimum of once a week to check for updates and also set it to automaticly check for updates!
