I agree with the praise for Dockyard. I buy mine from Little Shavers ... they come super sharp - thanks to Rick - and ready to go.

Thumbs down Re: Micro Carving Tools [ Advice Needed ]

I bought a set of the Dockyards about a month ago based upon all the recomendations I found in this forum.

I was really surprised when I put a magnifying glass to them and found that not one of them had a straight edge on them....not one!
I kept them anyway because I hate the hassle of returning stuff and then waiting once again for the goods to arrive; plus now I would have to wait for my returned goods to get their, and them to ship a new set back to me. Plus I quite possibly would get another set just like them.

For detail work they seem to work ok; not great but ok; but it really irks me to find that poor quality of workmanship.

Ken, I would let them know, I have several of their tools and have no problems, maybe it was just one of those things??

I couldn't do without my Dockyards....best tool investment that I have made. Great for working around eyes and caring minatures. I would recommend Rick....he will make sure they are straight and sharp. Give them a try, good deal for the money!

I know that Larry and Carol have a set of tools that were recommened by Peter Benson for doing the netsuke. They are very small and of excellent quality. Call the Woodcraft Shop in Bettendorf Iowa and ask about them, can't hurt.
