Default Messed up again...

I just wanted to throw out a question. How is it that I (we if anyone eles does the same) can carve a good to great carving one day and the next totally mess one up the next day? I dont get into a hurry I dont carve tired ect... so how is it that i (we) do this. I hope other people have or have had the same problem and can shed some light on this. Just my thoughts.......

We are human. It's that simple.

While, with practice, we get better and more consistant we are still human and will have "bad days" where our cuts aren't as crisp. our tools aren't perfectly stropped, or the wood we are working with decides to "fight".

dagwood,

it has happened to me also, i think sometimes you kinda do get in a hurry even though you think you are not or you just dont quite think your plan out as thourghly or your mind might not be on what you are doing, work, and day to day thoughts are on your mind and not carving with a clear head, so dont worry it happens to us all and then you get in the slumps where you dont want to carve and then one day you just want to, it is all part of it.

Dwayne, good question for me it's usally when I'm trying to learn how to carve something I haven't carved before. Also if I get in a hurry never fails and have lack of attention. I try not to carve if I'm tired or don't feel good.
Then there are a few times when everything about a carving goes right and all is well with the world. How or why this happens I don't know. LOL
I'll be watching your thread to see how everyone else "sheds light" on your question.
Kathy

I definitely do that. I blame it on me being a beginner. I do a couple nice one and then bam last weekend... nothing... could carve a tooth pick. Midweek I started a Tom Wolf Hound dog. I was doing great and don't know what happened but let's just say he no longer has a head. I will be doing my first transplant Right now, I have a mule I am carving and it seems to be headed in a positive direction I will post a pic of my headless dog

That's why some folks believe in astrology, some believe in biorhythms, and for others, stuff happens. There is no doubt we have good days and bad days, days we go 0-5 at the plate, hit 5 balls in the water, make bad decisions at work, etc. Then we have our "hall of fame" days! We all do it, we all know it, so don't fret too much. When it finally occurs to me that I'm just not going to have a good carving day, I read a book, mow the lawn, or watch a movie. Even a bad lawn mowing job will grow back, but a bad carving, at the end of the day, is just a piece of wood. Don't worry; be happy. Mike
