I hope this carving reflects the number of hours I put into it. She's approximately 14 inches high and carved out of basswood. I tried the natural danish oil for the first time and it gave her a dark gold color...then I sealed her with deft satin sealer. This carving is being purchased by a group who are presented it as a retirement gift to a person who likes the water. The scales were tricky as was the posture I gave her. I redid her face twice as it was a challenge getting an expression I was happy with. The tail was another experiment in patience. Hope you like her. Patrick |

I like the subject, the style and the final product. The colour does give it a different perspective. Nice work.

Excellent carving! Very nice style and pose....evokes different feelings from each angle? Not sure if she's lonely or just luring you to your doom!

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! They say the mark of a good artist is when the final piece does not reflect the amount of hours that have gone into it. I think you have passed that mark and then some Patrick. It is definitely a wonderful piece reflecting nothing but the pure talent that created her. Thanks for sharing. Joe.

Patrick for all the years I sailed the Seven Seas with my motley crew I never seen such a bonny mermaid. Mind you I never seen a mermaid, except once when I thought I seen one after the second bottle of rum! Well done,. Now I've a model of the Scottish Maid here, a mermaid would fit in lovely! |
