Default Mending carving gloves

Since I'm always harping at everyone to wear a carving glove (and thumb guard!) thought I'd share this tidbit of information with you. When I first got my glove it unraveled a little bit right in the groove between thumb and index finger. Of course, that's the first place a gouge slipped and I got a very small cut, big enough though to know there could be a problem there.
I used quilting thread and mended it, figured if I pulled the glove material together any time a knife or gouge hit the area the quilting thread itself wouldn't hold up but the pulled together area should. I was right and have mended my glove many times in different places, it doesn't seem to wear any harder in the mended places than not.
For any of you 'non' sewing persons out there, quilting thread is usually located right above the regular thread, it's just a heavier thread than regular. I thought about using a very fine wire but was afraid it would make the glove feel stiff. If anyone tries that let us know how it works!
Hope this helps somebody! Callynne

Callynne,
No problem my wife is a fabulous quilter I would have no problem finding quilting thread. Now a carving glove that might be a problem I probably should wear one but I find them too restrictive for the work that I do. It will probably only take once as I found out a few weeks ago. I was roughing out a carving with a chainsaw and not wearing any protection and I now have a four inch gash across my thigh. After the hospital I went straight to the local chainsaw dealer and purhased a pair of loggers pants. Small investment for safety I wont carve again without wearing them.

If any of you fisherperson types have any short pieces of 'Berkley FireLine' laying around you could use it ... As you know, it will dull a knife, at least in the higher lb tests.

Spiderwire fishing line will serve the same!

Or..... You can get a left-handed brother like I have. We can actually wear out both sides of a glove. Ken
