Just got done sharpening some of my "extra" knives to give away or loan. Here is the story. We had a Men's Breakfast at my church today and for some reason I decided to bring some of my carvings along to show I can do something other than cook up some good biscuits and gravy. And older gentleman, the father of a friend of mine looking real close at them. We started talking and he said they used to that when they were kids because there was no TV or internet back then. His dad would make long chains. So we started talking about the wood I use and what kind of knife etc. The started handling my ball in cage and was looking real distant like he was getting lost in his memories. So I told him I could give his son a couple of piece of wood and maybe I knife if he was interested in starting back up. He said I did not have to bother he just remember his dad teaching him and we was going to try to find out what happen to the "Collect". After he left Marvin my friend thanked me for bringing the them in. His uncle the old guys brother passed away last week so it has been hard , he was surprised his dad actually made it out for the breakfast. Anyways as soon as I got home I dug up a couple of 1x1x12 for chain and a 2x2x6 so he could try something large. I sharpened up and standard whittling knife and a small detail knife, together with a small waterstone that will make a nice little kit. Thanks for listening ,and you never know what doors will open, when you bring along a carving or two |

That's a nice gesture Tom, and if your friend's father takes up carving I'm sure he will find it therapeutic.

Good job, funny how these things get lost along the way. I was playing with my wifes Grandfathers whittling knife the other day, you know just kind of day dreaming. Thanks for post/ Jim |
