| | Re: Maybe I'm over reacting but.... Don't overlook items like books. Recently, I realized that I had purchased a book already in my collection. To prevent this, I built a database in microsoft and entered critical info on each book, including the purchase price. I am now approaching 100 books (most in soft cover) and am passing the $1,000 mark. I still have some books left to put in there. Also have 20+ years of Chip Chats, 10 years of Wildfowl Carving Magazine and entire collection of WCI and Carving Magazine.
Your post got me thinking about my venture into woodcarving. I was doing leather carving and decided it was too limiting and expensive. Decided to take up woodcarving, after all what did you need but a limb and a pocket knife!! Thousands of dollars, a myriad of tools, and a ton of carving wood later, I realize the error of my logic. Now, I have to figure out how to put a value on things for which the receipts are long gone. I guess I can go to the sites of the magazines and get some idea of the value of back issues.
Certainly this post made me realize that I need to get at least enough insurance to put me back in operation in case of a fire. |

| | Re: Maybe I'm over reacting but.... My agent showed up this morning and here's the deal.... My shop is cobvered for $30.000 and the contents for $10,000 but that does not include things like my hunting and fishing stuff or any collectables or carvings. They will give me an extra $10,000 on the contents for $50.00 a year but I have to make a list and photograph everything. Hey Nancy, want a job? You already know how to do it,Lol. Mike

| | Re: Maybe I'm over reacting but.... I have a policy for my Guns and for my Carving equipment as well as Contents of the house and shop. A lot of insurance companies will not insure a wood shop or the equipment even if THEY say they do. Wood is hazardest material as far as they are concern. And if your carving shop is in the house, well some will drop you like a rock. Check out for best companies and policies as they all are CROOKS. Read the FINE print and never believe just their word. Been there and changed companies a couple of times. What is bad, is when you have relatives or friends in that business and they still speak with forked tongues.
Yes, Insurance is a must and pictures of what you have will help in case of a problem. I made a video of what I have and serial numbers of all the guns I have and one copy to agent, another in bank vault and one at home. Learned the hard way of the guns. On to more cheerfull posts. |
