Default Mask

Here (hopefully) is a picture of a mask I completed the other night. It is a killer whale portrait mask, and this is what they (the orcas) would put on when they went on land and assumed human form.

We humans... we're so easily fooled...

Alaskan yellow cedar, acrylic(sp) paint, and horsehair.

That is a nice looking mask. Just curious what were the dimensions before you started.

Steve12345 - it is horsehair - you can get anything on the interwebs these days. I put about 40 hours into it.

Robert - This started out as a log, about 12"-14" in diameter. I lopped about one third off with a chainsaw, and the rest of the wood was removed first with mallet tools and afterwards, palm tools. The mask itself is about 12" high.

Great mask, Scooter! It looks very authentic. I saw an Orca wearing one of those just the other day.

You did a terrific job on the mask! Can you tell me where a wood source might be in the NW for wood to do that type carving?
