This little guy is under 2inches carved to go on the trawl boat i posted, and for Marci challenge.He's ok but didn't come out as nice as the first deckhand i carved . I need to leave these small carving to guys like Tom and Forrest .

At this stage of my carving , I don't think I could carve anything that small and make it distinguisable. Good job. Wayne (mj) |

Give it a try, Wayne - you might be surprised. Tip: to carve a 1.5 inch tall carving, begin with a 6 inch long piece of wood. Carve the caricature on one end of the stick, and use the other end to hold onto. Once the carving is done, use a coping saw to carefully saw off the excess stick. This works especially well if you want the character to stand on a small base. Claude |

Hi Marcia, I'm glad you liked him ,this was a fun project from the boat to the deckhands.Yes i did build be boat, the hull is carved from a solid block of tupelo.If you haven't seen the thread for the boat it in general carving.Thanks for looking and the nice comments.
