Today I was looking around my shop and cleaning it up a bit when I noticed there were a bunch of carvings sitting around unfinished. Some have been sitting around for years I know some not that long. So I decided to take a count and would you believe that there are 23 unfinished carvings. Some just started some half way done some almost all done but there are a bunch of them. These are only ones I can see right now I would bet there are probably another half dozen somewhere out of site out of mind. So just I was just curious if any of you are the same as I am. I think I get carving and dont like what is happening or get side tracked on another carving and they never get completed. Maybe its just me Colin

Hey Colin, Not just you my friend! Haven't taken a count, but I know that I have at least a dozen, some will never get finished because I either lost interest or didn't like the way they were turning out. I put them up on the top shelf......out of sight......out of mind just like you said. Good thread, interested in seeing the replies. Dan |

I also have around a dozen, maybe a few more. I have several (not in that count) that I don't ever intend to finish, as they were just test carvings. Claude |

I've got 4 or 5 and that's a lot for me. The more I carve, the more I seem to accumulate unfinished pieces though.

At our last carving club meeting we talked about everyone having unfinished carvings sitting around. So you are not alone on the unfinished carvings. We are planning our Christmas carving party already for December and it is going to be a Saturday with a pot luck dinner and a day of carving. Guess what? Everyone is going to bring an unfinished carving and work on that one. That way we will have a few people around to help others with problems on the carving etc. This is a new venture so hopefully everyone will bring a unfinished one that they can finish......FINALLY........ Good luck with the unfinished ones...... Gene

Any I leave as unfinished for longer than a week or two, unless I am allowing drying or something, remain fancy firewood. If I decide I do not like the way a carving is proceeding, or the wood unsuitable, that is an end to it. I have far too many fresh ideas blooming to be bothered with attempting a rescue of flawed carvings. I am pleased that I do not allow myself to work many pieces at once. I train myself to finish a piece I am working on until completion. At least it works most of the time
