Default Mantle carving

I have seen some nice mantle carving patterns by Lora Irish, but cannot figure out how to build the mantle itself. Can anyone help or recommend a good book on the subject? I asked her but she directed me here. Thanks in advance. John.

My apologizes, John! When I referred you to WCI I meant the book area. Fox Chapel has two excellent books on mantel construction.

The first one is on page 2 and the second is on page 3 or 4.

John,

You could also check out Joe Dillet's webstie. He does quite a lot of mantel work.
