Default Making a Bottle Cutter

A number of carvers have ask me to repost the article on my Bottle Cutter for stoppers. I uploaded a new video giving the complete measurements and instructions for building one. Cheap! And the best part is that it works!

Here's the link: Bottle Top Cutter on Vimeo

Umm, I'm coming into this later than most it seems and at the risk of sounding as green as I am...what exactly are we cutting the tops off the bottles for? Please pardon my ignorance and I must say it is a very clever contraption you have come up with there. Joe.

It's for displaying the stoppers. Lynn sets the cutoff bottle top into a wooden base, then puts the stopper on it. Looks much better than having a beer or wine bottle sitting on the display table.

Thank you Lynn for taking the extra time and effort to reproduce the cutter. Much appreciated.

Neat bottle top cutter/video Lynn...should have known if anyone would come up with a neat way of displaying his carved busts, you would Lynn! I, like Josef, couldn't for the life of me understand why you'd want to cut the top off of a bottle like that, but now thanks to you and Claude...another 'newbie' understands another interesting way of doing things! You guys are certainly wonders all to your own!!! Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks so much for the heads up Claude. I knew there had to be a good reason, but I was scratching my old noogin to come up with an answer on my own . I would like to thank you experienced carvers for sharing so much of your knowledge to us greenhorns. I have noone close by from which to glean such marvellous tuition and advice. Thanks to you all, Joe.

Lynn - Another way to cut bottles is tie a gasoline soaked string around the bottle. Light it. After a few seconds, plunge the bottle into cold water. It works "slick as frog hair" and can be adapted to any size bottle.

Thank you for the video Lynn,
And Claude what do you mean looks better than a beer bottle on a table.
Beer bottles are great decorations with or without carvings on top
