Millard, well said, this was in no way a challenge to see who was the best, it was just meant to show how other carvers approached the subject. I hope none of the other carvers took offence to me saying yours was far and away the best. Mind you I stand by my statement that yours is the very best interpretation of the subject and I applaude you for that.

Very Well said Millard, and I agree. I did it because I never tried to carve a live person and thought it would be interesting, and it was. I didn't have in mind of competition just wanted to do my best and that I did. I learned a lot from doing it and that in itself was worth the effort. As you said if it was a competition few would enter in the future and I wouldn't have if that what this was. I enjoyed doing it and if the opportunity came up again I would probably give it another try.( Experience in Testing myself.) Merle

Aww Ron, my getting on my soap box could have discouraged people from posting challenge replies just as much, or more, as your innocent choice of words.

Hey folks, I'm not discouraged in the least bit! Bring on the next challenge. I nearly always need a kick in the pants to try something new and different. This challenge was just the thing.

Tucker man - you've done nothing wrong and your challenge was a WAY cool idea. So please don't leave and DO NOT stop posting any challenge you feel like. I think the vast majority of folks here understand and understood that the "challenge" was to challenge our own skills as carvers and NOT as a literal competition to see who is good, better, or best. These are totally subjective. We all learn and improve from everyone sharing their carvings and thought on what works or what maybe doesn't work as well (again somewhat subjective) and could be improved. As long as nobody goes getting harsh with eash other, or too easily offended then its all good.

So please keep up the great posts!

Well said Cliff. Your challange was fun and was meant to be fun. Nothing more, nothing less. I find it facinating to see the many intreprations of the same subject and I really don't care how it was created. You can use any means you have at your disposal to create the finished product. The finished product that is posted, for all to enjoy, is, after all, a glimpse of yourself. Thank you Cliff for a great challange and anytime ya want to post another I would be proud to participate! Keep you posts coming because I certainly enjoy them and look forward to seeing your subjects come to life ;O).

Amazing what one can do with a piece of wood. To all who carved and burned Ciff's picture, my hat is off to you all, Great jobs people.

To bad this thread was reduced to people doubting others. It sure takes away from some fine carving.

nuff said by me, but, saw it coming.

Cliff,

I found your challenge , rewarding and enjoyable. I have clean the thread as I think it is better served showing the wonderful carvings that have been presented and I have removed the threads which in my opinion did no service to anyone reading the fourm.

As I was the subject, of the issue. This is about a wonderful challenge picked up by many of the carvers and to that end I say, You did Great!

If anyone wishes to disscuss the mater , send me an e-mail or a pm.

Garry
