Default Lynx Creek Cottonwood Spirit

Medium: Fremont Cottonwood From Arizona
Size: 17 " Tall and 11" Around
Found Wood

Hi All:
I've had this piece of found Cottonwood limb in my wood cabinet for 2 years. Always knew that someday I'd carve something into it. I was attracted to this particial piece of Cottonwood because of the insect drilling.

Rather than carve all the holes out I decided to just work around them. The eyes are woodburned with an antique white highlights. Treasure Kote used to make the watery appearance in the eyes.
This wood has some beautiful color patterns and I think enhanced the carving. I changed the actual shape of the limb very little, it's much as I found it.

For the finish I used Watco Danish Oil and Deft Satin Varnish. It really brought out the rich color of the Cottonwood.
As Always I appreciate hearing from you and your comments.
Kathy

Something cool about that piece of bark, it had to be neat before you carved it and that is a nice looking spirit. I like what you did with the beard!

Cliff, Alice, Dave, Merle, Slather, Corey
Thank you, I really appreciate all your compliments and comments. It was a great find and I hope the 'Wood Spirits' will give me another chance at such a fine peace of Cottonwood again. I spotted a really nice piece last week, but the creek is running a little fast to cross right now. But later this summer that piece of Cottonwood is mine! hee tee.
Thanks again all,
Kathy
Cliff I hope you are doing OK, I keep you in my prayers.

Hi Millard, only after visiting your Foundwood Carvings did I realize just how much you like working with Cottonwood.
As you can see I like it too!
Thank you, for the nice compliment and I'd like to compliment you on your work and site.
Kathy
