Default Lynx Creek Brothers

"Lynx Creek Brothers"
Fremont Cottonwood
18" Tall x 6" Across x 1 1/2" Thick
Finish is spray Spar Varnish indoor or outdoor 3 coats

I have several projects going and this is just one of them--a gift for my hubby's cousins in California we'll be visiting. They live in a wooded area and I thought they should have a couple woodspirits to guard the garden. Hope they like um.

As always I enjoy reading your comments.
Kathy

Wow, Alright! They are wonderful! Also, I get to be the first one to reply!

Very nice Kathy. For only 1 1/2" thick, you managed to get a lot of depth into the faces. Also, the eyes just really pop out at you. If they are going outside, I hope you varnished the back as well. Did you just varnish the faces? Or did you spray the bark as well? The reason I ask, is because you can't really even tell that they were coated with varnish, just by looking at the picture. (That's good, by the way) I like that natural look. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Dan C, thank you, for your nice compliment. I sprayed both sides with semi-gloss and the bark too. I don't know forsure if the carving will be out doors or not, but just in case I thought the spar varnish best. I like the natural look too, the spar just added a nice luster to the cottonwood.
Glad you liked it.
Thanks again,
Kathy

Those are OUTSTANDING. Course, coming from you, I didn't expect anything less.
Hope they stay indoors as the Spars varnish will have to be reapplied ever so often and if it peels any then will look bad. Don't ask me how I know.

Kenny, Dave

Kenny: Thank you, fortunately hubby's cousin lives in a Redwood House and knows all about caring for wood. Any other one but him-- I'd have to give your disclaimer too. lol
I have some pieces out in the yard that are finished with Spar Varnish brush on type that look real good. They went though the winter, it will be interesting to see how long they will go before I have to treat them.

Dave: Thank you, I appreciate your nice comliment and for stopping by.

Thanks again guys,
Kathy

Great job Kathy!

Dan is correct you really did get an incredible amount of depth in them.
The eyes really pop, but the ones you carve always do. Great expression and texture too.

I'm certain they will perfom their duties as Garden Guardians very nicely.

Thanks for posting them,
Doug

Fred, Doug, Ron T

Fred: Thank you, for your nice compliment and stopping by.

Doug: Thank you too...our Arizona Cottonwood (Fremont) doesn't get thick like the Plains and others. Lucky for me it's just thick enough to get some detail.

Ron T: Thank you, hubby's cousin and wife will be very thrilled with the carving. They live in a nice community at the foot of Yosmite and this peice will be perfect for their home or grounds.
A couple years ago one of their neighbors had one of their tree's struck by lightening. That summer they paid a carver to come in and carve a black bear into what was left. At that time hubby's cousin ask me if I'd ever do something like that? I said in a minute if I had the right tools.

Thanks again, guys,
Kathy
