Default Lost the plot for sure:)

For anyone who wants to know the background to this....piece, you will have to go to the thread titled 'Unknown', in the WIP section. I am not alltogether sure I am game enough to share the result of this project with you for fear of someone committing me to the loony bin. I have titled this work, 'Pavlov's Dog'. Why that name? Dunno, just came to me. If you can see the pooch in this piece, then you are as far gone as I am. My partner begged me to go no further and add nothing more to this piece when I announced the name off-handedly, more for a joke than anything else. While I love the grain and colouring in this Yellow Birch, I still feel a little ashamed to present it as a finished item. Tell me your thoughts, no matter how diverse or divergent they be.

P.S. I haven't given up on the little Platypus, I will just put him into something else. Wouldn't want anyone to think I had quit on it.

First of all, that is a beautiful piece of wood, and perhaps a bit of genius in the inspiration. And yes, I can see the dog. I was wondering if the platypus might like a ride on the dog anyway.....

Well Brian, there is obviously no hope for us if we can both see the pooch. Thanks for the nice compliment. The Platypus has found its home on another base I knocked up in a couple of hours this afternoon. I posted a thread about it in the animal and bird section.

Hey Josef,
Here doggy doggy! You know me, see stuff in everything I look at and do see a dog very well in the first pic but then you loose me. Like the little platypus too! Enjoy your imagination my friend.

Josef,

OK despite a rather vivid imagination I'm not finding the pooch, but I still like the piece for the beauty of the wood and graceful lines. I have concluded that there are some pieces of wood that defy our desire to make of them something they are not. I think you found one of those.

L.P.

Hi Dan, thanks for dropping by. Yeah, the pooch is only visible in the first pic. You wont find it in any other angle.

Well L.P., it looks as though you are one of the few non-committable carvers on this site. Refreshing indeed that there is one among us seemingly sane. Thanks for the compliment. It is a nice piece of wood that defied all attempts to alter its own course.

Dog, yes, particularly the fourth picture... Beautiful wood, interesting piece, valid as an abstraction with or without the damn weird dog.
