Default Looking for Whimsy's

I'm thinking about doing a whimsy or two. Has anyone seen an article in WCI on how to do one?

Ken, are you referring to ball in cages?

I spent my father's day chipping out a simple ball-in-cage doodle. Found some decent instructions on the internet at How to Whittle a Ball in a Cage (with pictures) - wikiHow

Now on to bigger and bettter whimsy's - oh boy

Ken nice job on the ball in a cage. I just got a book from interlibrary loan for "Old Time Whittling" by Keith Randich has some nice whimsey to carve. By the way I like the santa in the background I may carve one and paint the hat the way you did. Make it look like a peppermint chocolate Hershey kiss. lol Thanks for sharing

Looks like I'm a day late and a dollar short here (nice ball and cage) but here's a BIC tutorial I put on the web about 9 years ago.

Here's some ideas:

Slider

yolk in an egg

Terry, Wow, talk about food for thought! That slider with ball looks like a great project to try. Thanks for posting the photos. If you have more, I for one would like to see them. Thank in advance -

Thanks Ron! Glad you like 'em. I don't have much in the way of whimseys around here anymore as I gave most of them away, but this one I kept for some reason. Carved it back in the 70s with an Old Timer pocket knife. I always thought curved links were kinda cool.

Woah Terry, how did you get the finish on that eggyolk? I'd have a hard job getting it that round outside of the egg!
