Default Looking for other local carvers - NM

Hi,
Anyone else on here from the NM area? I know someone named Mel answered once, but I seem to have lost that note. I was just wondering how many other people here are from this area.
Thanks
deb

hey john! I also talked to someone named Mel I believe. Do you belong to a carving group here? I have just ordered more bark from Canada and can't wait for it to get here. There is a big differentc in that versus what we have here. I just wanted to talk to someone locally and see what there is to offer here. I have only seen groups in Cruces or woodworking groups. Just wondered.

the carvers meet at the Woodcraft store on Wednesdays call Phil at the store or Bill they can fill in the details they also meet at a church but I don't know the particulars. Regarding cottonwood bark Have you tried carving the branches the wood is like carving butter it is smooth I think it carves better then Basswood and is more forgiving it is not as chippy.the finish is a lot better too. you can get a high gloss just from buffing the piece after sanding.

There is also a carving club near Las Cruces.
