Hey there, I posted this string in another section but didn't get a response so I am going to try it again here. I probably should have used a better title for the string. I would like some reccomendations of good carving DVDs. We don't have any classes out here and I thought this would be better than reading a book. I am interested in birds, caricatures and general carving. I could also use tips on texturing. Thank you, Dan |

For caricactures, Harley Refsal has a great DVD for flat plane carving called Figure Carving Scandinavian Style. I might also suggest, Begining Wood by Everett Ellenwood. Great disc even if you already know what you're doing. I have 7 different DVDs on carving, and will soon add Mark Gargac's Elf carving DVD, found at Gargacsoriginals.com Hope this helps. I love my DVD collection on woodcarving. Jim

Hi, as Jim suggested, there are some good ones. I would like to add Mike Bloomquist to that list. However, the Harley Refsal DVD will teach you knife skills that you would not believe, no matter how long you have been using a knife. I think I have watched just about all of them on the market, and some teach knife use. Harley Refsal really teaches you to use a knife. Bob |

Bob, what's the title of the Mike Bloomquist video? I'm always looking to add to my collection. I've learned so much from watching and re-watching the ones I have. More is more! Thanks, Jim

Here's another site where you can purchase any one of a variety of DVD's: Woodcarvers Warehouse - Carving Tools, Supplies, and Books from Top Manufactures Not trying to push anyone's website - but rather, relaying that the DVD's are 15% off. Last edited by Just Carving; 09-09-2008 at 02:53 PM. |

If you're looking for realistic I have the carving portrait relief and carving the female nude by Ian Norbury. Both very good and informative. There have been some posts on the site of others who have used Ian's relief DVD. I ordered them straight from his web site. You do have to consider the exchange rate between the Euro and the US dollar. Ian Norbury - Sculptor Jim |
