Default Looking for a carving retreat

The carving school I have been going to in Quebec is now closed so I am looking for somewhere to attend a carving retreat in the spring/summer. Interested in hearing from other carvers who have attended retreats and where they would recommend a Canadian maritimer to go to learn from a master carver. Your suggestions or advice would be appreciated. I'm mostly interested in carving bust or small realistic figures.

I've heard good things about the carving rendezvous in Branson! Enough that I'm thinking of trying to go next year. I'm thinking its in early June and again in October.

I believe this may be the one Scott is referring to Ozarks Woodcarving Seminar .My problem would be in selecting from all the great instructors! I can recommend Adina Huckins or her sister Janet Cordell for realistic busts and figures. (I have studied with Adina at the War Eagle seminars tha past two years,) Here is a link to the busts I've carved in her classes. "Behind Blue Eyes" finished

Thanks Mike. I remember viewing your carvings from that course you took. That style of carving definitely interests me. And thanks for the link to the site. Would love to attend the seminars, and the instructor quality is top notch. I was hoping to see some courses a little closer to yhe east coast but I may have to travel some distance to get a week long course.

The John C. Campbell folk school is the best of the best. I have gone elsewhere but the instruction, atmosphere, and living conditions (food, housing) are better than anywhere I have been. The boss (spousal unit) and I go twice a year on average to learn, rest, relax and enjoy.

I checked out their site Old Scout and Jim - thanks for the suggestion. I requested their catalogue. I see the schedule wraps up around June. Many of the courses I'm interested in take place through the winter months unfortunately. I'll keep checking the site as there may be some changes to the 2012 schedule. Some fine carvers offering courses there. Thanks.

Ouch...a little too far unfortunately. Looks like a great place to carve though, and great instructors. Thanks for the information.
