| | Looking for a book A while back, (last year?) somebody mentioned having an older book, 1930's(?) that had a lot of the sort of stuff that Tangerman tended to have in his books but with more detail. This person said they got a copy off of Ebay. I looked in the old posts but didn't have any luck finding it.
If anybody knows what I'm rambling about, I'd appreciate help!
Thanks,

| | Re: Looking for a book Nope, it's not by Tangerman. Whoever mentioned the book compared the author to him. I believe the author's last name MIGHT have started with an F. As you can see, I'm really sketchy on details here.
My understanding was that this author went into more detail about what I think of as "Whittler's Tricks" than Tangerman did.
Whoever posted it had mentioned that it was an older book they'd won on e-bay but that they didn't mind using it since it wasn't in great shape anyway.
thanks again,

| | Re: Looking for a book Hey there mikeg, it wasn't me that mentioned it, but by any chance was it the "Art of Whittling" by Walter L. Faurot? It was published back in 1930.
If it is, Lee Valley used to carry a reprint of this book, it was in their 2002/2003 catalogue, but I don't see it on their web page now, if you want maybe you can take a look at: http://www.leevalley.com/home/main.aspx

OOPS just looked myself and the book is listed , in the Index look under Carving, then Carving books, there are two pages.
OG.
Here's what Lee Valley says about the book ;
Altogether it describes some 19 projects in its 91 pages. Softcover, Smyth sewn, 5" x 7". Originally published in 1930. Reprinted in 2000.
Also it's only $6.50 US -plus shipping.

| | Re: Looking for a book O.K. now I remember, that was me that made the post in question. Old Gord hit it on the head "The Art of Whittling" by Walter L. Faurot. The Manual Arts Press Peoria, Illinois. Still have it, and I'm hogging it, ain't about to give it up. |

| | Re: Looking for a book Thanks for the help folks! That was the one. Fortunately there are plenty of reprints out there. I just want it for the information, not as a collecter's item.
Actually, years ago a friend gave me a t-shirt that said 'Biblioholic'. I tend to collect LOTS of books. I've only been collecting carving related books for about a year and I've already got about 60. I don't buy them if they're too expensive though. I doubt I've spent more than $15 for any of them and most of them were under $10 including the shipping.
One of these days though I'm going to break down and get Marv's book. I've heard that's a MUST have.
Thanks again for the help!

| | Re: Looking for a book I'm a book nut also, but its bird carving books for me. I just went to the office, and picked up a book by Keith Mueller, Waterfowl Concepts Book 1. I have been trying for two or three years to locate one at a reasonable price. Its fantastic, well worth the wait. I'm not able to travel to the shows, and the seminars, tire me out, so its books, and more books. Keith Mueller is one fantastic artist. 3 cheers for books. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
