Hi. Does anyone know of a good Christmas bear pattern or book with step by step instructions. My one sister likes to collect bears. And I would like to carve her one for Christmas. I'm not sure exactely what kind, but maybe something with a Christmas theme to it. I would greatly appreciate any input. Thank you all, Beeguy |

Beeguy There are a couple of good books out there with some patterns and instruction. Dale Power has a book called 'Bears to Carve' with good instruction. As a twist, you might try a book by Kelly Stadelman called 'Carving Teddy Bears' also with good instruction. As for a holiday theme, just stick a bow on the sucker when you are done and sing jinglebells to her----that always gets them. ![]() Cheers Ric |

Beeguy, I think a polar bear is a grand choice for a Christmas gift. Put a wreath around his neck

Beeguy, My first thought was to wonder how experienced a carver you are and how realistic you want it to be? In an issue of Chip Chats or WCI about a year ago, Desiree H. had a really simple bear walking on all four feet that could be enlarged to make it whatever size you wanted. I did it in a 1' size miniature that was stylized and then did it about 3' and again 4' with hair and eyes, etc. Rossiter's Roughouts in Wichita KS has probably a dozen different sized and posed bears in roughouts. Quite frankly, I love doing bears but other than a polar bear with a Christmas tree or bow or holly leaves and berries, I'd probably just tie a bow around them to make them Christmasy I had a car wreck this week and will be laid up for a couple more weeks. When I get more mobile, I'll dig through old issues and see if I can find it and let you know the issue. But I think you'll have fun carving a bear. Donna T

Donna I wish you a speedy recovery and hope it was not serious. Take the time to read and relax and some probably much needed rest. Cheers Ric |

Donna, Just getting around to reading this thread sure sorry to hear about your mishap I really hope that the injuries are not serious. Being laid up is no fun I just recovered from herniating a disc and completly immobilized me for five weeks. Not only does it stop you from carving but you get so far behind in commissions. Please take care of yourself our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. Colin

Donna, I am sorry to hear about your accident. I sure hope you get well soon. Thanks to you and everyone else who responded to my question. As far as my carving experience, I have only been carving for about 1 year so I am still a beginner in my opinion. Again, I hope you heal up soon so you can get back to carving. Beeguy |

Beeguy, Sorry dont have any bear patterns unless you want one that can be done with a chainsaw then I can really help you out. You know me I dont do anything on a small scale just not talented enough to fiddle with the small stuff. Colin
