Default Where I live and carve and why I ....

Several people have asked me about where i live so here is a view from my front porch taken a few minutes ago. This is where I like to sit and carve in the summer time.
We live on a mountain is south central WV by ourselves (my wife Pauline and I)and our closest neighbor is about a half mile but we like it that way. Deer in the yard all the time and every now and then a Bear and lot's of turkey.
Our closest Wal mart or mall is 55 miles and if you have to get to a hospital for anything they pick you up in a chopper and fly you there.
The closest carving clubs or carving supply store is Wood Crafters in Parkersburg and that's 160 miles from me.
Now you know why I appreciate you all so much and all the help you give me on this thing and suppliers like Little Shavers. People like Bob and WCI for haveing a site like this is a God send for people like me.
Thank you folks for all the help you have given me and for letting me pester you from time to time for info, It really helps alot, Mike

Hey Mike enjoy that place, it looks great. We lived at a similar site for a number of years. A 100 acre farm on the river, with a view of the mountains, (large hills). When my health started to fail we moved back to civilization, but its great to see your in such a beautiful spot. Isolation, scenery, and best of all, time to carve. My friends from Vermont used to remark about the beauty of NB, but I can't imagine why when there is so much of it right there in Vermont. Glad you posted the photo.

Now that's a view worth having! Who needs neighbours....the deer and bear probably make better neighbours anyway.

Mike, My grandfathe ron my mother's side was from the Back hills of West Virginna and always wanted to go back and look up his side as we don't know much about his family. Your place looks wonderful and the deer and turkeys hunting looks great. Never hunted bear but after hunting man, everything else pales. Enjoy and guess what my friend, we appreciate you also.

Hey Mike,
I've always liked the scenery in WV. i don't get up there alot. We don't have veiws like that in south GA. swamps pines and live oaks. just today my better half was commenting that she can't watch the sunset, the trees are in the way. might be able to get her to move to the mountains yet! that's why it's called West"by God" Virgina.

Mac, Don't want to get off subject here but I thought your wife would like to see these.

My wife returned home from the store one day and told me to get my camera and walk out to the end of the driveway. I had made my wife some Bambi cut outs for the beginning of our drive where we placed some flowers , bushes and a couple sections of split rail fence. This fawn was curled up with Thumper,Bambi and Flower. I placed this picture on my web shots site about two years ago and it has been downloaded about 1700 times,Lol.
This is a picture of the sunset that was taken with my trail camera set up in the front yard. The picture from my porch is south west and this is west. We can sit in the dinning room and eat in the evening or on the porch and watch the sunset or the snow coming down.
It's just a small house and nothing fancy but that's what we wanted . We still own a 4 bedroom two bath ranch 5 miles west of Akron but we liike this better. One of our daughter lives in the house up there. Mike

Hey mike,
Showed the pics to my better half after she was just talking about tropical locals( for some reason she has Aruba on the brain) and she said beautiful sunset but doesn't it snow up there?
She's a cheesehead from WI and she's been running from the snow. Oh well.

Mike, thanks for the pics. Your view reminds me of where I grew up in Western Maryland. My wife and I are planning to retire soon to W.VA. and are working on the plans for our log home now. Our view will certainly not equal your view but it sure beats the DC area where we are now.

Again, thanks for sharing.

OK Mike, give us directions to your house. We'll be there this weekend. Everybody bring your tools, food to share, and your sleeping bag. Bring lots of food. We may just stay a spell. Anybody bringing an apple pie?
