Default Little Yankee

I've been away for a while and have a lot of messages to catch up on. Here is one of the things that kept me from posting. Someone who saw him dubbed him "Little Yankee", probably as he stands less than a foot high. I have another log of similar size so I want to make a carving that will match his look (or character) as a admirer wishes for two mantle pieces. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The wood is birch and I have one coat of tung oil on him so far.

Patrick, Very good. But you fooled me. When I read "little Yankee" my mind went to less than three inches.....But even if it's a "giant yankee" it's very good; and I like it...Tom H

Tom, if you've seen most of my other carvings you'll see why it was referred to as "Little Yanky". I rarely carve under 3 feet but I'm getting low on wood and spring is a few months yet.

That is nice work Patrick. I love the hat and the face is perfect. I would suggest the beard lines flow not quite so regular, just below the mouth, they look too even to be real. If you give them some movement or randomness it will improve the whole look.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Yes Bob, I was waiting for someone to pick that out. The lines are much too straight and no waves. I only really noticed it after I posted the pics. I'll be changing it and give it some more character.
