Default Little Shavers Beginners Kit

This kit is a bargain. Any reviews on the actual tools? Will they last a lifetime with proper care? Hold a good sharp edge for any length of time? Thinking about ordering one since they are priced so well and have a backup.

Thanks!

I started out with one. Very nice kit. They are made of good steel. The key is that Rick puts the proper bevels on them and of course Rick is a sharpening guru. And you get them sharpened for free in the future. Just can't beat it in my opinion for the money, plus a glove, strop and a box.

Rick's Beginners kits are an excellent buy and quality tools. I recommend them highly. I start out all of my students with them and they will last you a life time. The fact that they are professionally sharpened is the big point with me, so many beginners start with tools that aren't sharp and thus get frustrated. That frustration will put off a new carver quicker than any other reason, so they stop carving.

The kit is a good bargin under any circumstances and I have bought dozens of sets for my beginners. Never had a complaint. The box they come in is handy, the glove and thumb guard are essential, and the strop and compound shows the new carver the basics of keeping the edge on their tools. The Murphys knife is good and sharp and the basic set of palm tools are also. The set is good for beginner and experienced carver alike.

I, too, have purchased Ricks kit. It is a bargain and gets you going in the carving world. There are no complaints at all and their service is great!

Is the start-up kit worth the extra $20? It wasn't available when I bought my beginners kit.

I bought my kit from them over a year ago. I have carved many, many, many things with them. I can honestly say that they are as sharp as the day that I got them, except maybe the knife, but this is my fault because I was learming how to strobe on it. Thank god I also bought the Kershaw from them. Sharp as ever. Would highly recommend them. Great person to deal with to. i would put my stamp of approval on them any day of the week.

Yeper, Rick has quality tools and do do last. Still using them
Not only are the tools quality but you get a knife, glove, strop, compound, gouge protectors, and a wood box.
Well worth the price.
