Default Lion Face

My niece's son wanted a character to hang on his wall so I came up with the idea of a lion face inspired by one of Susan Irish's patterns. The fangs had to be put in last which was the tricky part. I tried carving them with the face but the wood kept chipping...so I made some posts on the end of four teeth and set them into the gums with some glue.
I didn't want him to look too menacing so I gave him cartoony eyes with a toothy grin. I ended up painting the face rather than just coats of a color wash as I wanted the colors to stand out more given the age of the child. He's carved in basswood and stands around 9 inches tall. Thanks for looking.
Patrick

And I thought that I'd seen it all! That lion looks great for the wall and I'm really glad that you made him a happy lion (or at least not too menacing) so there will be plenty of happy dreaming and less nightmaring. Thank's again for posting!

Patrick, your lion turned out really nice and he's definitely non-menacing--you did great.
