Default Level of detail

I have been working on a seminar project for this weekend; it had to be fairly simple, to be carved in a couple hours by any carver. (I never know who the students will be at a rendezvous.)
I decided on a toothpick holder in the shape of a singing waiter. The toothpicks are in his mouth.

It's interesting that although my usual carvings are highly detailed, this had to be very light detail and would look odd otherwise. Â*The painting will provide details such as buttons, bow tie, and apron strings.

It has been a while since I carved such a simple carving.
I forgot how difficult it can be to make a nice carving without detail.
