Default Letter Carving

Hello, I'm looking to do some letter carving on the side of boards in exactly the style in the picture below. Is this something a Dupli carver could do. Any advice will be very gratefully received. I have many to do and would like to make the process as quick and neat as possible. Thanks in advance for your help, Ben

Ben, I do lots of letter cutting and would'nt dream of using anything other than standard carving techniques and tools. For speed and accuracy traditional methods are hard to beat, though you do need practice. Traditionally cut letters look sharper and livelier than routed letters and bear in mind that you control the layout, the fonts, the spaces between words and letters (kerning) as well. This is not to say that routers have no place in carving. I have four which are in frequent use, generally for hogging out waste quickly and efficiently. I suggest you have a look at the many books, videos and messages on this forum which deal with lettering, sort out what you want to do, then come back with more questions

All the best

Peter Connor
