Default Layout Software

I have been using a combination of Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher to make the layouts for my carvings. However, I have received requests to carve something on an oval plaque or circle plaque, and I run into difficulty in laying out the lettering on a curve with the computer to make it fit with the plaque. I know it can be done with Word Art and the like with Microsoft Office products, but it's always a guessing game trying to get it to fit. Is there a particular software program out there that someone uses to draw up layouts for works that are not on a rhombus esque type work of art?

Well you can do it in photoshop. I don't know if its the same on all versions but in cs5 if you right click on the text with the text tool or right click the text layer and select "warp text..." you can select different warps from the drop down and adjust them with the slider bars. You can even make a path with the pen tool then take the text tool and click on it and it will make the text follow the path. Hope this is helps.
