Default Large Woodspirit

Finally got back to doing some log carvings. Quite a switch from carving little golf balls and bone. This large fella is carved onto a 5 foot birch log. I let it dry out a little too long and there is some spalding showing up in the grain. It adds some color but the fibres are starting to break down. He was just sealed with oil and deft satin sealer...and still a little glossy in the pics. Woodspirits are popular with my small number of fans so he doesn't stay in my garage very long. Enjoy the pics.
Patrick

Patrick, that is a very finely detailed face. If not a keeper someone will be real happy to own that one.

Patrick, I would recognize your carvings anywhere!! Your distinct style comes through on every one.....the detail is amazing and the clean cuts and smoothness you achieve is marvelous. This one is no exception......just really great work! Bonnie

Hi Patrick,
Definately easy to see why they don't hang around long, he's fantastic. Great to see you getting those "spirits" released.

Thank you Bonnie and Alan.
Alan - its been a long while since I carved a carving for the sake of carving. Something I miss doing.
Bonnie - many of us have our trademark...and I hear often about the eyes I carve. I hope to get some variation in my faces this coming year. I don't want to be comfortable and do the same style of carvings so perhaps my eyes will start to look different in the years to come.

Thank you Dileon. I don't think I ever received a post from you before. I'm getting away from the forum too often. Hope to see some of your work. Appreciate you taking time to view my work.
Patrick
