Lightbulb large stump and rootball

Just acquired a large(8'X8') stump cluster and root ball from an oak tree. I want to carve 3 eagles in various poses w/some kind of background. Yes I will be using a chainsaw and angle grinder w/chainsaw blade. I have reference books but any and all advice and comments will be welcome. Next time I post I will provide a pic. Need advice on storage or protection as it is outside and I live in Oregon.(wet) Plus this is first thread I've started here and want to see if I figured it out.

Default Re: large stump and rootball

Store it ouside, off the ground and under some sort of protection. The air needs to circulate freely all around the piece. (outside if the piece is to big for indoors.) Might want to take an air hose to it and blow off any dirt and sediment (gravel) that is on or embedded in it.
My apology...didn't see the size the first time I read the post.
Might also want to give it several months to cure somewhat to help slow most checking. I would also carve it in the winter months.....all depending on MC and your relative humidity in your area.
