Default Large bearded character

Not sure if I should call this 2.5 piece of carving a woodspirit or just a large bearded man. He's carved in poplar and the satin wax is still drying so he has a wet look even after I wiped him down. He's quite large and weighs some 50-60lbs. Thanks for looking.

Fascinating work ........ absolutely fascinating. I always print out your work so I can look at it - study it a LONG time.
Thank you.

As usual, that's as good as it gets ! Thank's especially for the close-up's.

He sorta reminds me of an old sea captain during a perilous storm with the eyes of determination to beat the elements at all costs.

I sure do like your work. Each one has so much charactor. The beard really works well on this one.
Glad to see it.
What are you doing with all of these? Do you sell them? or do you have then displayed all over the house looking at you? They seem so life-like, it would be like having lots of people around all the time...

Thank you Nancy and Dave for the encouragement.

Thor, these characters or what ever you wish to call them usually find a home in a very short time. Most like them for their cottages but a few have them in their homes or entrances. One particular gentleman who purchases many of theme puts them along a trail near chalets he owns and promotes it as "take a walk on the spirit trail". I've been asked to carve characters in live trees next year for him which would be a first for me.

By the way, I am nearly finished my first carving with eyes on it from your tutorial and dang, they work, WOW, I think I can finally carve eyes. Should pretty well finish it today (provided I don't cut a finger off) I'll post a pic for sure.

I think he is the Guardian. He could set on my porch and keep watch for me. Great job.

Amaizing work Patrick! That one is a real keeper! Your work just keeps getting better and better.

Sorry I missed you at the show last week. I heard that I just missed you by just seconds. Had a nice visit with Keith and Ann. Maybe next year?

Bob

Ive watched your carvings since I have been on the board. In the past few carvings you have changed alot of the ways you use to carve, they have improved with each one! The fine detailing of the eyes and the noses are just wonderfull plus when you add the hair & beards,it starts to breathe!! Such great work Patrick!
