| I am interested in a fairly large basswood block (6x6x6 inches), and have been informed by heinecke wood products that a block that size must be glued up. does anyone know where to get a block that size that is solid, not glued up? thanks |

Try Terry Porter at Waterfoul Woodworks in Montana. He could probably cut whatever your need. Tom |

I just picked up 3 solid pieces of basswood 5-7/8" x 5-7/8" x 18" through my carving club. I will try to get the contact info and post it here tomorrow.

I picked up my large Basswood blocks from Krantz Wood Sales. You can contact them for availability at jkrantz@usfamily.net Their prices were VERY reasonable and availability of Basswood and Butternut was pretty good. I can't really speak to shipping prices on smaller orders as ours was over $600.00 and came in 4 large boxes. They also carry Aspen and Diamond Willow walking sticks and canes. |

I bought my large wood from Heinecke GLUED-UP 6" x 6" x 48" ( that was 3" x6" glued to 3" x 6")and it's just about perfect. It's so very, very good that it's quite difficult to find the glue line. I used lots of that stuff and never once found a bad spot or had any trouble. But I understand your hesitation and wish you the best luck finding a big chunk quickly.

I too, buy my wood from Heinecke and have often wondered how they can manage to send me wood that does not have any defects. If I didn't know better, I'd say they must X ray it. |

I really hate to be a downer, but I just looked at the Wilcox price list, and I picked up my Basswood from Krantz at about half their listed price. I haven't carved any yet, but it looks and feels about as good as any other Basswood I've bought. |
