Angry Kulis Karvit

Has anyone else used this product ?
I bought some per Doug Brooks article on split carving and can't get it to harden. 18 days ago I mixed per instructions for 2 minutes, still not hard.
10 days ago mixed for 5 minutes, still waiting. 5 days ago mixed for 15 minutes and stiil waiting.
I have worked with marine and auto epoxy all my life and have never had this happen.
Finally went to the garage, got some auto body gel and set the legs with that.
Then used Sculpy clay to fashion the eyes and that set fine in a few days and painted very nicely.
Before you ask, yes I have the 2 different tubs of epoxy & hardener.
A bad batch or a questionable product ?

Frankly I just don"t trust any of that stuff for a strong bond. I've used general purpose 5-minute epoxy for years with no problems. I do use Tuff-Carve for filling in gaps and it works well for that.

I've used it a lot, I think I'm on my 3rd order of it now and the only problem I've had was when I mixed a very small batch like about the size of two BB's and it may have been the skin oils in my hands that kept it from hardening.

When my last container of epoxy was about empty I had hardener left over so some of my mixtures were not 50/50 but it still hardened where it was used. I usually keep working it for about two minutes after it stops being sticky. For small jobs I usually roll out a ball about 1/2" wide of each one and then mix.

You may have got a bad batch of hardener.

you said "set the legs", are you using it as a glue or filler? I'm with Lynn as far as glue, 5 minute epoxy can't be beat, and for a very thin glue Titebond III.

I think it's a great product and it's the only filler I use.

I used just a week or so ago, when it hardened I could not carve it like they claim you can, I broke a knife tip. It was as hard as a rock, but looked like plastic !
