I just finished a carving, painted it with acrylics, then attempted to seal it with Krylon Matte finish to avoid the shine, It went solid snow white. Krylon Ind. has been no help, suggesting wet wood, and solvent entrapment, more like talking to the legal dept. than anyone wanting to help. Finally at wits end after I tried scraping etc. I simply sprayed until the white disolved, and I patted the excess off, ( it was running by now). some simply would not dissolve, and I wound up putting a wash of dilluted burt Umber over everything and wiping that off, darkened the carving more than I liked but it is now presentable, ( Has anyone had this problem, and what did you do about it? I for one will never use that product again, just my opinion, based on a really really bad experience.

Hi Ron, Where and when did you spray it? I've had problems with Krylon when it's cold out causing that fogging... Bob |

Commonly called "blushing". It occurs when humidity and temp are at a certain point. Most of the time you simply let the piece dry thoughrly, wait for humidity to go down (or run a/c for a couple of hours) and spray again with Krylon. It generally clears up like magic. Surprised Krylon did mention this.

I've had the same thing happen. I sat and tried to figure out what went wrong and got no where. I said the heck with it and sprayed the whole hull again, and presto, it dryed clear the second layer. Scared the be-geeze out of me! Bob

I have had problems also with the spray being used in cold temps, my shop is only heated when I am in it, and when I bring the finished items inside to dry, not a problem, but if I left them outside, get the "white Haze"....Dennis

I've had that happen with Krylon and several other brands of poly. Usually it was in warm, humid weather and after a day or so the coudiness cleared up on it's own. It is scary, though and if I hadn't just given up in disgust and walked away from that carving, I would never have figured out to let it work itself out. Still don't know what the cause is but I tend to think it's more humidity than anything else. Another thing I've found is that when using acrylic paints be sure to let the paint FULLY cure, not just dry, before putting the spray poly on. Early spraying will also cloud the poly....another reason to suspet moisture; this time in uncured acrylics. Al |

I have had this happen under certian humity and temperature conditions. Sometimes it clears up when the humidity changes and then sometimes I find that it is best to just spray again and wait.

I too had the same problem in my basement workshop this winter. It is heated all the time and it is actually dry in our house. I've had it happen with Krylon and some other brands, I had a guy at our local paint store tell me the cans may have frozen at some time before I bought them. Same thing though I let it dry completely and sprayed again and it worked out. Don't know?
