Was looking for a set of chip carving knives and came across these. My question is are they any good ? The other ones I seem to be able to get in the UK are Wayne Barton..Opinions on these two brands of knives would be really appreciated |

Kirshen chip carving knives are fine quality. Wayne Barton are (in my humble opinion) a tad over priced, though I do own a pair! |

Kirschen (Two Cherries) chip carving knives, and other knives can be evaluated according to blade quality, thickness, length, and handle. The angle of the blade in relation to the handle is also important. When designing the My Chip Carving knives I looked at all of these elements and believe I've created a knife that really does the job. These knives will have a full tang blade (blade the runs the full length of the handle). The blade is also very thin (1mm) and slices nicely through the wood with minimal pressure to reduce chip out. I've also added a thumb notch to help with locking in the proper angle. All-in-all I think you'll find the My Chip Carving Knives to be a real step up in quality. I'll stand behind this claim :-) Production has started and they should be released for sale (worldwide online) in 2-3 months. Marty Leenhouts https://www.MyChipCarving.com 866-444-6996 |

In my opinion, Drake and John Dunkle chip knives are awesome!! They are thin and cut like no other. They come sharp and stay sharp with just stropping. Dave |

I've heard good reports about Dunkle and Drake knives from others. That's good. I want others to get comfortable with a knife and enjoy chip carving. One thing I'm surely not going to get into, now that I'm getting ready to release my own knife line, is bashing other knife makers. I was selling Barton and LAMP Swiss knives at a show not long ago when a knife maker who will go unnamed stopped by my table two times and picked up one of my knives each time and basically told me how bad these knives were and how good he was at making knives. He lost a lot of respect in my eyes after that meeting. Sure, I want to produce the best chip carving knives out there, but that doesn't mean that I'll say anything bad about others. I've carved for 25+ years with the Barton and LAMP (formerly Klotzli) knives and have been able to do fine carving with both. So...I know I was tooting my own horn in my last post, but I vow to not do any bashing. You can hold me to it! Happy carving! Marty Leenhouts https://www.mychipcarving.com 866-444-6996 |
